Anybody heard anything about or from Ted W. ?
I wrote to tedw and Rob a month or so after Google Groups dropped Usenet. I
gave them detailed instructions on how to sign up for a server and how to
configure Thunderbird so they could come back. They both declined.

I guess the one thing tedw and Rob had in common is that they both
decided there were no saveable souls here anyway. :-)

Or they actually met, and fell in love! ;-)

That is too bad..I liked them both...Even though Ted W. and I never
agreed, there was something about him that entertained me, and yes, I
probably would have bought him lunch if we ever met.

What on earth could you buy with mere lunch when it's control of your mind

You're just jealous of tedw because you know no one here would buy you
lunch...

Actually, in the cultures I'm accustomed to, it would be plain, simple, and
disgusting charity.

I can't overlook Ted's "just one drink" mantra, that
overrules anything else he said that I may agree with.
Pushing alcohol on alcoholics is as low as you can get.

My favorite of Rob D. is when he combatted Ted W.
on the very religious grounds that Ted said was his
central argument, not too long before they left the group.

I don’t think tedw pushed alcohol on anyone. He insisted that IF you were
right with God then you would be safe. That was his way of justifying his
own actions. There are also recovered alcoholics who take wine communion
and don’t end up relapsing into uncontrolled drinking.

Surely you are familiar with the part of the Big Book which says to try
controlled drinking if you don’t think you’re powerless over alcohol. Does
that piss you off so much that you disregard everything else it says?

Like tearing "Our Stories" out of your Big Book because of not liking the

As usual you misrepresent things I’ve said. That is not what happened at
all.

My original Big Book separated at the spine right at the beginning of the
personal stories. The glue just stopped sticking there. This happened
because of the heavy use of reading and notating within the book. Since it
was broken now I just didn’t bother trying to restore it and removed that
section since I didn’t read them anyway. I’ve read the stories before
several times, including during book study meetings. I also have several
other Big Books which are all intact.

;-) aside, instead of "the heavy use of reading and notating within the
book" you could have been busy concentrating on building your own
experience, having a life of your own, and incidentally; a story of your
very own, worthy of useful inclusion in the next Big Book.:-)

PS: Can recall telling CC to get a life!
With the cruel benefit of hindsight, am now free to admit I didn't even have
a clue what "get a life" actually meant.

I was working with others and helping them get sober. Maybe you know

AAers didn't call me Big Book Bob for nothing. :-)
"Helping them get sober"?
There is One who has all power?
Having never met that One yourself, how the fuck could you introduce Him to
others?
You're merely a parrot, trying to recite a book, Traditions, and all the
associated money spinners when you could have been learning from living
instead. All the poor fucks you "helped" (and the failures you've probably
forgotten) could have been reading that stuff for themselves.

Arguably, the biggest lie I told when I was a Thumper Perfectionist was
"Progress not perfection" Then I needed a bit of mental agility to invent
where my spiritual progress actually was.

Essentially, being superior to the drunks around me, I'd been bogged down in
Perfection mode.

Maybe there's a clue for the clueless there - maybe not.

I don´t think tedw pushed alcohol on anyone. He insisted that IF you were

controlled drinking if you don´t think you´re powerless over alcohol. Does
that piss you off so much that you disregard everything else it says?
No, because the weight of the message matters to me, the
Big Book makes *one* message suggesting controlled
drinking in a particular circumstance, while making hundreds
of messages, with every page, saying Do Not Drink.

So what that Ted said he wasn't pushing alcohol on
alcoholics? He did just so, through thousands of messages
for years and even published a book to reinforcement what
he said on usenet.

The some other stuff he posted that I happened to agree with
is red herring stuff, that in no way ought to cause
agreement with his "if you can't drink you're not spiritually
fit" offensive crap.

I can sympathize with his being political persecuted, as
he described the actions of the authorities, as an anti-abortion
activist but that in no way automatically mean I support the
anti-abortion message.

If there were more solid rebuttals to Ted on the alcohol issue
I would be more positive about him.
