Post by Pluted PupPost by Skeezix LaRoccaPost by badgolfermanPost by Skeezix LaRoccaAnybody heard anything about or from Ted W. ?
I wrote to tedw and Rob a month or so after Google Groups dropped Usenet. I
gave them detailed instructions on how to sign up for a server and how to
configure Thunderbird so they could come back. They both declined.
That is too bad..I liked them both...Even though Ted W. and I never
agreed, there was something about him that entertained me, and yes, I
probably would have bought him lunch if we ever met.
I can't overlook Ted's "just one drink" mantra, that
overrules anything else he said that I may agree with.
Pushing alcohol on alcoholics is as low as you can get.
I don´t think tedw pushed alcohol on anyone. He insisted that IF you were
right with God then you would be safe. That was his way of justifying his
own actions. There are also recovered alcoholics who take wine communion
and don´t end up relapsing into uncontrolled drinking.
Surely you are familiar with the part of the Big Book which says to try
controlled drinking if you don´t think you´re powerless over alcohol. Does
that piss you off so much that you disregard everything else it says?
No, because the weight of the message matters to me, the
Big Book makes *one* message suggesting controlled
drinking in a particular circumstance, while making hundreds
of messages, with every page, saying Do Not Drink.
So what that Ted said he wasn't pushing alcohol on
alcoholics? He did just so, through thousands of messages
for years and even published a book to reinforcement what
he said on usenet.
The some other stuff he posted that I happened to agree with
is red herring stuff, that in no way ought to cause
agreement with his "if you can't drink you're not spiritually
fit" offensive crap.
I can sympathize with his being political persecuted, as
he described the actions of the authorities, as an anti-abortion
activist but that in no way automatically mean I support the
anti-abortion message.
If there were more solid rebuttals to Ted on the alcohol issue
I would be more positive about him.
Post by Pluted PupMy favorite of Rob D. is when he combatted Ted W.
on the very religious grounds that Ted said was his
central argument, not too long before they left the group.
