Permalinkthreat and in order to mitigate that we need to once again control the
Panama Canal and Greenland. As a secondary priority, bringing Canada into
the USA as the 51st state has been mentioned as well.
- Canada
I’m not sure messing around with Canada is a good idea. They have been a
good ally in most respects and do control oil pipelines which serve the
USA. I also don’t like the idea of them being a state because it would
certainly add two more Democratic senators to Congress.
- Panama Canal
I highly doubt Trump will forcibly take the canal. That would be an
international public relations disaster and surely isolate the USA even
more than Trump wants. Most likely this a bluster to gain favorable
conditions from the canal authorities and to push back the Chinese who have
gained a significant foothold there.
- Greenland
Now this one is interesting. Taking Greenland by force would be fairly
easy. Imagine the pressure that would place upon NATO to respond, but then
who is NATO really? Without the US they are powerless. Owning Greenland is
all about the shipping lanes, rare earth minerals, and national defense.
The airspace over Greenland is highly coveted and the shortest distance
from Russia. Building air defense bases in Greenland seems quite critical
at this time. Since China owns something like 80% of rare earth minerals,
it seems quite important to also control the one place in the world that
has a significant amount available when some day we can actually get to it.
Honestly I think Trump is just flexing some muscle to remind these people
he is not a pushover like Biden and will seriously protect US interests.
They will have to offer some concessions to continue being on his good side
because they need the US protection far more than the US needs their
permission. It’s time to get our money’s worth.
