A motorist with three prior DUI convictions was arrested on suspicion of
drunken driving for allegedly triggering a two-vehicle crash in Dana
Point that killed an 88-year-old man.

The crash involved a Land Rover SUV and a Ford Transit van, the Orange
County Sheriff’s Department reported. “The Land Rover turned left
against a red arrow signal in front of the Ford Transit van.

Melvin Joseph Weibel of Dana Point, who was a passenger inside the
transit van, was pronounced dead at the scene. Paramedics rushed the
driver of the van to a hospital, where he was treated for serious but
non-life-threatening injuries.

With three prior convictions, the driver of the Land Rover, Serene
Francie Rosenberg, 48, of Dana Point, was arrested and booked into the
Orange County Jail for murder and DUI causing injury.

My brother was the victim of a similar head-on crash while driving his
van which had no front protection. The driver that hit him was drag
racing with another guy, both car salesmen driving new cars off their
lot, and they bumped into each other. One guy jumped the lane into my
brother's lane coming in the opposite direction. The driver that hit my
brother was killed, my brother was almost killed, and had to have
extensive plastic surgery surgery and a bunch of operations. That was
back in the early 80's, and he got $1 million settlement out of it.
These days it'll be much more, and some lawyer and his client is gonna
get very rich off of this.
